On 9th March Kathryn presents World on 3, part of BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking Festival at Sage Gateshead. The live broadcast is at 23:00 and the programme will be available on BBC iPlayer.
‘The Darkening’ is the Northumbrian name for twilight, but this band’s music blazes fiercely! Inspiration comes from the wild, dramatic, weather-bitten countryside along Hadrian’s Wall, which seems so quintessentially Northumbrian and yet, almost 2000 years ago that same landscape was inhabited by people from around the world, worshipping different gods and following different customs. The Darkening‘s world premiere is at Norfolk & Norwich Festival on 21 May (booking opens 8 March). See live dates for more performances.

Kathryn and Amy Thatcher are part of this fascinating new event on the magical island of Lindisfarne. The programme runs from 9am until 11pm and fits around the tide times. More details here.
There’s a “bookette” to accompany the Tales & Tunes tour! A small but significant publication only available at shows: the remaining Tales & Tunes performances and the Magnetic North East night at Sage Gateshead on 10th November.
Tales & Tunes from a north-easterly direction will be sweeping across some parts of the UK. Venues are getting full! See Live Dates.
London’s Festival of Korean Music opens with this unique concert – a collaboration between the sublime Black String quartet and Kathryn. Unmissable!
The poetic power of music and language combine in “Tales & Tunes” by Kathryn and the writer David Almond. They’re writing, composing and rehearsing over the next couple of months, together with accordionist Amy Thatcher and director Max Roberts of Live Theatre. It’s all very exciting – and Arts Council England awarded funding towards its development, which makes a big difference. If you enjoyed “Northumbrian Voices” this is the show for you! See live dates for tour details.
One of the most magical settings for a festival must be Lindisfarne and this year’s Holy Island Festival is headlined by Kathryn & Superfolkus. A special guest at this concert is 12 year old Abbey Tilley, winner of two trophies for her dialect singing at the recent 2017 Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering, and who has also been getting singing advice from a certain Mike Tickell! The festival programme is carefully timed to allow for the high tide which covers the causeway to the mainland twice a day. If there is any slight fluctuation in tide times, fear not! – the band will simply play faster.
